Is it possible for me to get in shape by the 25th of january?

I just got my police fitness test in the mail, and its the 25th....a lot earlier than what i expected. I need to do push-ups, sit-ups, 1.5 mile run and sit and reach.

Im not in horrible shape now. Just the running and push-up thing im worried about. Anyone got a fast track system to get me in good by the 25th? Should i just watch Rocky and get it from him?

Help is needed.

MacBaine's 2 step workout:

1) Call ISP
2) Say "Terminate my service"

Watch the pounds fly off!

If you're not extremely obese, you should be able to do the 1.5 mile run...it's not THAT far. For the pushups, however....I would start doing sets of 10....and do as many sets as you can every day up until 2-3 days before you have to do them for real....that way your muscles will be ready.

Every day will not help. Take at least one day off in between, preferably 2.

If you're not much of a runner now, you better start. As Scarpozzi said, 1.5 miles isn't really THAT far. However, if you're not used to running it, you better get that way. And the only way to do that is to start running.

Running, while it can be hard on your knees, is one of the few exercises you can do daily. So, what I would suggest is this: Go out and get a good pair of running shoes if you don't have them already. Then start running. Daily. Start off with as much as you are comfortable with but you are going to have to push yourself beyond what you think your limit is if you want to improve. That said, there is most definately a difference between the points where you want to stop running and where you simply cannot run anymore. If you run two or more miles a day as quickly as you can muster between now and the 25th, doing a mile and half won't seem so bad.

I would imagine the police probably don't look too highly on walking during your run, so I would avoid doing that if you can.

On another note, is there a time limit to the mile and a half?

just start running. You will be sore the first few days, but do it one day and than rest the next. It will be tought at first, but you will be surprised how quickly your body can take more excercise. And turn off your PC!

of course its possible, thats not even hard... just start working out hard every day until like a day and a half before the test. just do like 10 pushups every hour, than at night do as many as you can. same with situps, and just start running in circles

Those are about normal for a police fitness test. I've checked out at least 15 departments and most are in the 12-14 min range, 25-45 situps and 20-30 push ups. Walking is usually permitted in the run, but of course there would be a stigma attached i am sure if you decided to walk. I would start with doing as many pushups as you can in three sets. see how many you can do, and try to increase it by a few each day.

you'll be fine.
