is it possible to use a free domain name provider (such as Freewebs) and use a foreign FTP server (as in, the free ATOT webhost deal etc.) to host the files of the domain (even if Freewebs has it's own built in upload/file manager and host service.)?

I ask because i want a free domain name to be compatible with Macromedia Dreamweaver. Also, which freedomain site should i use (geocities, lycos, etc).

If you don't have an existing site why can't you just use the ATOT hosting for the free hosting, why do you need to link to it from another provider?

Technically you can, but it would be a royal pain to get all the linking working the way you need it.
