to run a processor that is not technically supported by the mobo? for example like running a 2100+ on a kk266+. since the kk266+ is technically only able to support a 1800+ will the chip just not work, cause any damage or will it just run at the slower speed.

The worst it could do is not boot or give error at bios screen saying something to the fact of no support.....In most cases later bios updates may have added the necessary identification for the chip or multiplier for it to run..... The 2100+ only needs a 13 multiplier and that should be supported since it would have needed to be there for a 1.3ghz (200fsb) chip from the past...

KK266 doesn't have a Bios that supports Thoroughbred Athlons. Any speed Palimino you want to shove in there will work fine though.

It has always been to my recolection that If it for example says it'll support a 1800+ xp, and you throw a 2100+ you just won't able to get the 2100+ speeds, it'll just clock it at 1800+ because thats all it knows.. Maybe I'm wrong in my thinking. But I wouldn't think it'd neccisarilly (sp..?) 'wreck' anything. But won't say for sure.

That may be the case if it didn't support the muliplier of 13, but often times they just don't update the stuff you are reading or the board may post wrong in the bios black page but ultimately it still reads a 13x muliplier and set to 133fsb and that in return will equal 1733mhz...
