I have only 56K internect connection.

I was wondering whether it is possible to use my laptop to have wireless access to internet. Is this possible?

If possible could you guys let me know what are the hardwares I need and from where I can buy them.

I have 802.11b netgear wireless router and gigafast wireleass pcmcia adapter. I guess I could use them if i had hi-speed connection. Can I somehow use them for 56K connection too?

Probably these are all dumb question but what more a dummy in computer can do!

I would higly appreciate any response.

You could if you had a router that allowed for dial up access. I know the snapgear line ( I just ordered one) has that feature on some models.

do you have a desktop also? You can do ICS if you have a desktop with 98SE or later, 2k or later works best. I did that with a WAP hooked up to my friends comp, works good.

None have DialUp. Some Cable/DSL Routers have a RS-232 Serial Port, to which an External DialUp Modem can be conneceted.

Thanks guys for all the help.

JackMDS, your link was really helpful. I have a question though to you or anybody who may know. The link says (in option 3), the router need to have backup serial port.

Does netgear MR814 router has backup serial port? Or there are any other which is cheaper?

the mr 814 does not, none of the newer routers do. You just need to look at the specs and find one that has that capability.
