Hi.

I'd like to know if it's possible to give one of my Hard-Drives a new "local" name ?

For example, I got a C and an F Drive. I'd like to change my F Drive into a more standard D Drive (set as the Slave).

All that under Windows XP SP 2. Is it possible ?

Please, if so, let me know how to do.

Thanks.

Do you mean you want to change the drive letter?

You cannot change the drive letter for the boot drive (the one with XP installed on it). It is easier to re-install.

You can change all the other drive letters. However, you may have problems if the drive you are changing the letter for has programs installed on it. The programs may not run since there may be pointers that use the old drive letter to access the content of the drive. After changing the drive letter, those pointers will be pointing to a non-existent or incorrect drive. There may be software utilities that would take care of correcting the pointers. But, it is easier to re-install the programs.

If all your programs are installed on C, you can safely change the drive letter for the other drive.

Right click on "My Computer".
Click on "Manage".
Click on "Disk Management".
Right click the drive you want to change.
Click on "Change drive letter and paths".
Click on "Change".
Select a drive letter.
Click "OK".
