a client of mine wants to use two monitoring stations with one PC.
I could just get dual vga-port video card and hook the monitors up.... but is it possible to use two sets of keyboard/mouse - one at each station?

they don't care that they can't use them independently... as long as he doesn't have to run back and forth just to type something in and see it on the monitor.

Is there like one of those splitters for the keyboard and mouse? it can either be ps2 or usb...
Another question is, will win 2000 pro or XP Home allow you to use two sets ?

thank you for your help

You can have as many usb keyboards and mice at once as you want so feel free to just plug in an extra USB keyboard and Mouse at the 2nd workstation / spot and you should be golden

I was thinking it might be possible to use two sets of same brand/model cordless kbd and mouse package with only one receiver attached to the computer. Might be less complicated. Check with the mfrs to see if it is possible.
. There are also mouse and kbd Y connectors that would allow for two sets of PS/2 corded input devices (or PS/2 connected cordless) - but the last time I checked they are more expensive than lots of the kbd/mouse kits out there (if $$$ is a consideration). See them at Dalco.com et al. Again you would want to use identical sets to avoid conflicting drivers.
