is it possible to use pc2700 memory for athlon 64?

I have been out of this thing for awhile now, back then cpu and mother and memory all run at same fsb times some multipliers. I guess the real questions is, now the cpu can run at 200fsb while memory on 166?

Yes, you can run 200 FSB while the memory is at 166 MHz. The motherboard will automatically set the right ratio for this when you put in the memory.

will the slowness be drastic compare to pc3200?

also.. does this using slower memory apply to the latest p4 chips as well ?

I'd like to know as well letian, since I'm buying parts for my new 64 rig and want to use as many pieces from my current rig as I can 😕

Using Pc2700 memory w/ A64 does not seem to hurt performance much, all Laptop A64's use PC2700 sodimms and the performance is close to their desktop counterparts (assuming a similar spec laptop and desktop)

I am asking same guestion, because i have legendary KHX PC3000 memorys whit bh5 (2*512) and i am thinking that can i overclock my system much 😉 ´cause of "slow" memory? and what kind on results i can wait?

Yes you can run PC2700 in asynchronous mode with P4 same as with A64. But you will suffer some performance drop in this mode.

Better try you luck to run PC2700 at PC3200 if it can.

thanks for all the responses
another question is, is it possible to overclock the cpu with the memory speed staying at pc2700?

Yes, you can use FSB/Memory devider ratio to achieve this. But remember running in asynchronous mode you need to sacrifice some performance.
