Is it possible to use Exchange 2000 to view global contacts through LDAP?

Note: This question has been in Software for 2.5 weeks with no valid responses. I am wanting to see if someone in AT OT has a clue to do what I'm trying to do.

The server in question is Windows 2000 Server with Exchange 2000.

Our company uses Outlook and thus contacts, public folders, and e-mail are all integrated into one stupid proprietary protocol. I am trying to configure the server such that it is entirely possible to get the same functionality using open standards. E-mail and public folders were just functions of IMAP, but the configuration of the global directory eludes me. I'm assuming I can view all the users via LDAP in an standardized application that obeys the protocol - the question is how?

Thanks

Looks like possibly, SquirrelMail has this functionality on Exchange servers. I just got a top level reading of it from this link, but it may be an option.

Look at the second bolded question on the page.

Looks like this page has a discussion on how to access the GAL using ASP.

I'm reading it, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to help me because I need to do it through outlook....
