Is it possible to use a motherboard for sound only?

I had this motherboard: http://www.dfi.com.tw/Product/...TEGORY_TYPE=MB&SITE=US
But it broke twice so I got this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...m=N82E16813131013#spec

My new motherboard is supposedly a lot better but the sound pales in comparison to my old board. Not only do I hear a slight fuzz, but trying to record with this new card is a nightmare. I can't just switch from mic to in-line or stereo. The board has to recognize that I reconnected the recording device each time I switch and go through a confirmation before I can use it. I record a lot. (At first it couldn't record without heavy distortion but I managed to figure out how to fix that.) With my other board I never had a problem. I also can't figure out how to do stereo recording with this board. I used to be able to stream songs and record MP3s from the sound I was listening to and I can't seem to with this board. It's really pissing me off.

I know this sounds crazy... but is there at all anyway to use the sound from my other motherboard but keep my new board? Or do I seriously have to pay even more money for a sound card now?
