Hello,
I have a VAIO laptop with a 17" wide screen display. I wanted to know if I can use my desktop to display through my VAIO. I have the docking station, but I do not know if this is possible. Can anyone give me any step by step instructions on how to do this? Much appreciated.

1st off, kinda wrong forum. What are you looking to do? Display the laptop's image on a CRT monitor?

I think he wants the desktop through the laptop.

Not sure if this is possible directly, but you could use VNC (Remotedesktop, etc) and a network to show the desktop on the laptop. It would be slower, but would work.

Not sure if there is a USB/Firewire solution or not. Maybe a TV in (some sort), but not going to have the sharp resolution of direct.

Wrong forum of course but since you're a n00b:

Not really, laptops don't have VGA _in_ ports. You could run some remote access software on the VAIO but then you're not actually seeing the output from the desktop's graphics card (so you can't use the card's 3D acceleration for example).

(Amol's link is a another software-based method, that might do what you want if you don't need 3D acceleration)

You can sort of do it if the dsktop has S-Video ("TV") out, and you buy a TV-in USB device or PCcard for the laptop, but resolution will be low and quality not so great. Plus there will be a little lag.
