Is it possible to upgrade video?

Is it possible to update old films into HD? I just saw a comcast commercial saying you could view on-demand all of the Star Wars films in HD. Given that the Star Wars films were orginally recorded to tape, is it possible to "up-format"? From what I can tell it would be like converting a 128 kbps mp3 to 320. You just end up with a bigger file with the same quality. Does this hold for HD?

Considering film is pretty much limitless I think it would look better in HD. Film is not digital with megapixals so it captures the trues sense of hd. I could be wrong on this but dont think that if you zoom in on 33mm film it will start to pixaliate (sp Im tired). So as lng as the transfer is done with HD digital equipment it will then be"HD".
