Is it possible to upgrade the CPU on IBM A31P Series?

I have A31p series with P4 1.7. I was wondering if I could upgrade the cpu to 2.4 mobile cpu one or maybe to the desktop cpu one.

thanks

It uses the mobile P4 and IBM's maintenance manual lists speeds up to 2.0GHz for it. I have seen some units that require new parts for the 2.2GHz and higher CPU's and other that don't. 2.0GHz is a sure bet, but 2.2 or higher is unknown.

I seriously doubt that you'd would gain much speed improvement. Probably end up with shorter battery life. The bottleneck on laptops are hard drives. Get a 5400rpm HD with a large buffer and max out your ram.

I have IBM 60 GB with 1GB of ram already.

I hope I can try with 2.4 or something like that but if it requires some additional chips then I prefer to keep this one

thanks
