Is it possible to upgrade my Toshiba Satellite CPU?

Hi guys! I used to browse these forums about 4 years ago and now I'm back with a new account since I've forgotten my older one. Anyway, I did a search for my laptop (Toshiba Satellite 5205-S503) in regards to any upgrades but I didn't find any info.

Can some tell me if these laptops can be upgraded to a new CPU? Or is the CPU pretty much builtin to the mainboard? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The CPU is definitely not built into the motherboard. You can still buy P4-M's, which is what I think you have (at least that's what's listed under the specs for the Toshiba Satellite 5205-S503 on cnet's review site). Laptop CPU's can be a real pain to upgrade since most OEM's don't design laptops with it in mind. I've never owned a Toshiba, so I don't know what their chassis are like.

I don't know what you currently have, but the fastest P4-M that was made was a 2.5GHz, and you can bet it runs really hot (i.e. you'll probably see less battery life). If you currently have a 1.6-2.0GHz P4-M, don't bother. You wouldn't see that much of a performance increase for the $250-400 you'd pay for a 2.4 or 2.5 GHz (which are the only two you can get anymore, I think).

Here's what Pricegrabber currently lists for P4-M's. If I'm wrong about your CPU, my apologies.
