Is it possible to upgrade my laptop's videocard?

Hello everyone.

I have a Gateway 400 X Laptop with a Pentium 4 2.0, 512 RAM and a 15" XGA TFT. The video card is an ATI Radeon Mobility 6 according to my display drivers and the Device Manager. My questions are: Is it possible to upgrade my video card? And if it is, where would can I buy a "mobile" card (like the new ATI Mobility Radeon 9000) and is it a simple take-the-old-one-out, put-the-new-one-in proceedure?

I was thinking of calling Gateway, but fear a simple "No, you can't and you'll void your warranty", a "Why would you want to do that?" or a "If you want better graphic performance, you need to get a better laptop. How about this one right here..."

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

you may be able to get a newer one from gateway's spare parts department, thats the only place you'd likely find one. the dell inspiron line was upgradeable. of course now they've changed from C to D series chassis so theres a break there.

It would definately be a manufacturer only job....the video card is probably integrated into the motherboard so I am not sure it could be upgraded at all....unless the laptop manufacturer had upgrading in mind when designing.
