Is it possible to update a DOS BIOS without a floppy?

I have a older socket A system that I am rebuilding (there won't be a floppy drive) and would like to update the BIOS (for 137GB+ drives).

Is it possible to make a bootable DOS CD and update it that way?

Maybe but why not just hook up a floppy for the flash and remove when done?

Do you have a thumb drive? And does the BIOS allow for USB thumb drives to be booted off of? And do you have another machine with a floppy?

I do have a USB drive.

The current version of the BIOS doesn't allow for bootable USB devices.

I remembered that I have a spare loose floppy drive laying around so I just used that.

It also looks like Nero has built in support for creating a bootable DOS CD-ROM which would also work correct?

That's correct, I?ve created one before.

I've been in this situation before where I couldn't get a hold of an internal floppy drive when needing to update a BIOS.

Luckily with my company laptop they supplied me with a USB floppy drive, which was detected as the reserved secondary floppy drive when plugged into the motherboard, the B:\ drive. Anyway, I was able to use that just fine to boot from a floppy.
