Is it Possible to unzip multiple files simulateously?

I am in the practice of downloading "backup" copies of games that I "own". You all with me here?

Sometimes these backups contain 50+ files, of which I have to double click on every file to extract it. This is annoying. Is there a method for selecting all those files and extracting them simultaneously. Maybe another peice of software? (I use WinZip currently)

 

I use Winrar 2.71 to do that and all my compressing/uncompressing. It works with all types of archived files. Free download at c-net or zd-net. It beats the crap out of winzip.
 
You can do it with winzip. Make a directory that the unziped files are going to go, left click on the first zip file, hold the shift key and click on the last zipped file. Now that you have them all highlighted right click and drag the files to the new directory, a context menu will appear, choose extract here and that's it.
 
Yeah, what hominid said. Or you can always go get the dos version of pkunzip and use a command line to unzip all the files into a directory. Another note, when you use winzip to select multiple files like hominid said, I wouldn't recommend doing more than 10 at a time because it will slow your machine to a crawl. It's fun finding copies of games that you "own" sometimes before they are even out in stores. 🙂 Have fun and be careful.
 
Humm ... I think that the Winzip tip won't work for our Cigar-dude. Most zip files of ***ahemm*** backup copies ***ahemm*** come with more than one file inside, and taht trick is going to leave him with 20+ winzip windows open, and needing to click "overwrite all" in all of them.


Try one of the software mentioned above ... I've never used them personally, but they might be just the ticket.
 
There is also a command-line (gulp!) add-on to WinZip out there. I made heavy use of it when beta testing Millennium as MS packaged everything in ZIPs.
