I purchased a copy of Windows XP Home. After about 6 months I am switching to a laptop already equipped with XP. I was wondering if there is a way to unregister xp so I can sell to someone else?
AFAIK, all you need to do is remove XP from your old computer. When you sell your XP home, be sure to include the certificate of authenticity with the proper CD key.
activate and register are two different animals. if you sell it, all you need to do is inlcude the COA, it doesnt really matter if its registered in your name or not...
No, you only need to include the COA with it to whoever you sell it to. And I believe the 'reset' is after four months, so the buyer shouldn't even need to call Microsoft to activate it, they can use the activation wizard.
some site did an extensive analysis of what data travels over to MS during activation, and they found that protocol supports de-activation... But so far I have not seen a hack to actualy perform the said de-activation, maybe someone else?
