is it possible to undelete things with NTFS

I friend of mine asked me if it was possible to undelete something (it's gone from recycle bin)

Only thing I remembered about undeleting was good old DOS undelete command, which showed you all files that have been deleted but were not yet overwritten. Is there a possibility of any of this in win XP?

Undelete under NTFS is the same as under FAT.

When a file is deleted it isnt really removed from the hard drive just yet. The sectors that the file is stored in are simply marked that they are available for the storage of new data. Until something is written over those sectors the data can be recoverd however you need a 3rd party aplication to do it.
