We've been engagement ring shopping for about a month now. My gf has found the perfect setting, but unfortunately the one we saw has CZs in them. The jeweler said she could swap out all the CZs for "real" diamonds but I just don't trust her. If I were to buy the setting, can another jeweler take out the CZs and replace them w/ real diamonds?

I take it there's a fee for this on top of the diamond?

Just doesn't make any sense, the woman said $3600 for a .53 carat stone w/ the setting, but she then mentioned that the ring had CZs in them and she's selling it for $275 as is. So, I'm actually get ripped off by the cost of the diamond. Bluenile has similar diamonds (4 Cs) for way lesser.

they may do it for 'free'. everything is negotiable. certainly they'd rather perform a service that doesn't cost them too much than come down the same amount on the rock.

Absolutely not. The setting made for CZ isn't strong enough to hold a real diamond.

Everyone knows this.

Come on...how dumb are you? Really?

Is it possible? Yes, of course it is. Do you trust the jeweler to actually give you diamonds? Some CZ is so well made than only an expert can tell the difference...

if you are going to get less than a carat they have man made diamonds that are a lot cheaper than "natural" diamonds
