I started watching Game of Thrones last night so I'm getting a kick out of this thread.

That's called FastPlay. Yes, someone invented the ability to skip past all that BS and it was such a novel idea that it has a name.

fastplay is on DVD's, i can do the same thing with blu ray's as well

You know what would be even more epic? If they patented it. "Sorry movie purchaser, because Disney patented the ability to skip forward past movie trailers, and we don't want to license that, you will have to watch all the trailers. For an extra $4.99 however you can purchase another copy of this media with Disney Fast Play™ technology to streamline your movie watching experience."

Think of p0rn DVD's and Fast Play™ technology.

i don't know what you people are watching but with the disney blu ray's i have when i pop them into the PS3 i go to Top Menu and skip all the previews and everything else

Not all Blu-Rays play the same in regard to skipping content. Typically Root Menu never works, Top Menu sometimes works, and at worst, you have to hit Next a few times.

Someone's cranky lol. It wasn't even a question. Go back to cutting yourself in your little emo corner.

By the way, it could possibly be implemented with a format tweak.

a lot of times its the content owners

with ESPN Disney tells the cable operators to include it in the basic package

This is what i was told by directv. Either it was when i canceled my subscription or when they tried to get me to come back and asked what it would take.

If this is true, i think they need to be the ones telling the content/channel owners to get over it or they will not carry their channels.

I canceled my subscription when the 8-12 channels i watched started going to reality tv crap and history channel started getting very weired and goofy.

They kept telling me if they were to do the ala cart option, those few channels would cost me about twice as much as i was paying then.........

This is true. That's only one motive though, and probably not the one driving most piracy.

The thing that kills me is how DVDs have advertisements. It's so fucked. I was watching some crappy movie at a friend's house and it had at least a minute of advertisements and they couldn't be skipped. Pirated videos almost never have ads. I have never seen it.

same message, different cartoon
xlarge_game_of_thrones.jpg

Why are there two weirdly shaped dicks on the desk?

Also, I imagine the perfect cartoon for summing up piracy has an Admiral of Media screaming and beating the crap out of a customer. The Admiral has a big chest of gold behind him, and the customer has a fistful of money he's trying to give the admiral. Then in the background there's a pirate pulling a Tom Sawyer on a boat, totally chilling with a bunch of media.
