Is it possible to skin Windows 2000?

The deal is that I downloaded the Shareware version of WindowsBlind and I really like it, but the problem is that it has to be running in order for the skin to be active on the desktop. The skin I am using is the old Mac OS 9 skin which I love, but like I said I don't like the fact that WindowsBlinds has to run for it to be active.

So my question is, is there a way to skin Win2K without having to have a program running or am I stuck?

Window Blinds 5 (now in Beta) no longer has the system process that WB4 has ( I think), so in a little while your wish will be fulfilled.

That's dissapointing, but WB5 sounds really promising though by the time it's out I'll be using my new laptop with XP running the Mac OS theme from the ground level.

WB just "skins" the explorer shell, but the best way to go about it is to simply replace the shell altogether. I use Litestep. With litestep I just need to download the skin like you do with WMP or winamp and apply it. Litestep is the shell, it doesn't run on top of explorer. Because you aren't using explorer, you do lose some functions like autorun(which I find annoying anyway), but you don't have any overhead either.

One skin that matches a winamp skin
