Is it possible to set up newsgroups that send email alerts when someone posts?

My office is looking into using newsgroups on our intranet as a place to post emails. We would set up a separate newsgroup for each project. Our problem is that unlike Outlook Express which shows you when you have new posts in a subscribed newsgroup...Outlook doesn't look at newsgroups at all...you have to open O Express to even look at the newsgroups. So is it possible to have newsgroup posts that are sent to the newsgroup automatically emailed to all who have subscribed to that newsgroup?

Of course all of this may be moot when we change over to Exchange in the next few weeks. Is there something inherent w/ Exchange that would work like a newsgroup?
