Is it possible to run 2 video cards at once?

So is it possible to run 2 video cards at once to speed things up?

I have a motherboard that supports both AGP and PCI-E graphics cards. I have a BFG 6800 OC AGp card and was wondering if I put on another budget PCI-E graphics card would I be able to squeeze more performance out of my machine.

Is this even possible?

It won't speed up your machine, but it would allow you to run more monitors.

They will not work in SLI, no. An application will only make use of one or the other, not both.

It would be great if you play a game such as eve and like to fps while you autopilot. I had crap luck with SLI, so unfortunately I'm kinda turned off to it. But I did contemplate getting a second, mid-range card for just that purpose.
