I have a 3-year old Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 speaker set for my PC. One day during a thunderstorm the subwoofer stopped working (lightning shock probably). The speakers are not covered by warranty anymore.
Is there anyway I can get it repaired (the sub)? Will Klipsch repair it for me?
I already contacted them, and am waiting for their answer.

I think it costs $90 to get it fixed from klipsch. I think they might be replacing the old subwoofers with the newer "ultra" ones.

Yeah, they said they will fix it for 90 bucks, but I'd have to pay one-way shipping. That's gonna be costly since shipping will be like 50$
I wonder if I can find a good replacement off eBay.

Looks like a replacement on ebay might be about $75 shipped

if u know any amateur electricians...

or u fancy a go urself...

i can almost guantee it is an overloaded transistor - either due to heat / lightning overload... just a matter of finding the little sucker and replaceing it...

AND IF ITS BROKEN... NOT AS IF YOUR GONNA LOSE ANYTHING...

Thanks for the advice guys, but how hard is it to pull out the amp and check it? Is it any dangerous (like tampering with a CRT)?

I opened the subwoofer today, and unfortunately, the fuse is intact. Are there any cheap subwoofers that will work with my speakers (and act as receivers)?
