Is it possible to recover data after it's finalized session on a CD?

A friend of mine wrote onto a CD that has some data on it already.. and now it's not showing up. I guess he finalized session and then start writing again..

Can he recover the old data or is it gone for good?

If he wrote over it then it's gone for good. If he didn't overwrite it it can probably still be recovered, although I'm not sure how

I have a program at home that does that. It is called ISO something or another. I will check when I get home from work and update with the name if someone else does not post it.

He didn't write over it.. because he was using CDR and not CDRW. Looks like he finalized the CD after he wrote some info and when he started to write again onto the same cd, it closed the old session and restarted the session with whats left (free space) on the CD..

You should be able to recover it if he just started another session. I think Nero can switch between different sessions on a disc.

The program is called ISOBuster. It should show every session on the CD.

yup, you NEVER actually write over with any cd, whether it be CDR or CDRW. what you do is you make the OS think that the original is no longer there. but the actual data is still on the cd.

you just have to get the write utility to access it.

Nero will do.... even roxio ezcd will do... All you have to do is display all sessions.... as long as its a cd-r...
I dunno about cd-rws....
