Is it possible to play MP3s on PC through home stereo?

I have an older P166 sitting around and was thinking it would be kinda cool to set it up as a jukebox of sorts. Does anyone know of a way to do this where the MP3s could be hosted on the PC and yet played through my home stereo setup?

Thanks,
Fausto

You just hook the line out of the soundcard to an aux input on the amp/stereo. Most likely you'll use a 1/8" miniplug to rca adapter.

Yeah. Its called "hook your stereo up to your computer through your soundcard VIA a RCA to 1/8" phono jack cable" 😀

I did it for 5 years until I finally broke down and bought PC speakers. Cables are at Radio Smack.

<Edit> Beat to the punch. 🙂 I'm drinking coffee and typing.

Dude, get a Soundblaster Live Value with a digital output. Hook it up. Don't use that weak analog signal. I have my home theater setup with an HTPC that way, I get DTS off my WinDVD, HDTV w/DD5.1... It's all good!

Yep.

I have never had "normal" pc speakers, I've always had my comp hooked up to my stereos.

I have a TB Santa Cruz sitting around, according to the manual, the versajack can function as a digital out. Is this the same thing as the SB Live?

Actually, you should avoid analog connections for another reason.

Your computer is grounded. More than likely, you have an AV component that is grounded. Two grounded components makes for a very annoying ground loop, read about them here.

The easiest solution is to buy a cheap SB Live! value and get a daughtercard for it that has an optical or digital coax hookup. There would be no audible hum over a digital connection even if a ground loop existed.
