here's my setup:

two computers with two wired NICs
two laptops with one wired NIC and one wireless NIC
one internet connection

can I do this:

internet <----> computer one <---wired---> computer two <---wired---> laptop one <---wireless---> laptop two

and have internet on all computers?

Maybe?
I could probably have teeth pulled without any anethestetics too.
If you use ICS on the first computer, and also the second computer, AND the third computer, you will have sucessfully created three seperate networks that individually and collectively suck major butt.
No easy file sharing. Same for printing.
Oh, and it will break, that you could be very sure of.
Get a router, please.

Possible? Sure, it takes about 20 seconds per PC to set up the routing / forwarding under UNIX / LINUX.
With MS Windows / ICS, YMMV.

Buying a $5-$10 10/100 hub or switch would make life easier, though.

Actually having the traffic gateway through a given PC often makes sense, though, because maybe that PC can be running some good firewall / proxy / auditing / security software, or it can be a gateway for various networking functions or whatever. If you can set up a client PC to pass through one gateway there's no real reason why you can't continue that process to have any number of successive client + gateway -> client + gateway -> ... chains.

Good luck. Why would you want to do this anyways?

meh I just wondering if it was possible. I don't think I'm actually gonna do it, considering how cheap routers are these days.

i wasn't trying to actually do it... I was just wondering if it was possible. one of these days though, I will try it just for shits and giggles!
