Is it possible to make windows desktop show icons as a list

I want to know if there is any way possible to make my desktop icons to show up as a list like if you were to right click in a folder and click view, then list. I really would like to know if you can hack windows to do so without having to install some crappy 3rd party software. If it is impossible to do then any sugestions on some not so crappy software would be cool (if there is such a thing) Thanks in advance for any help.

Not really what you're looking for, but checkout this link for an interesting customization.

Another possible thing to checkout is Litestep. It also is not exactly what you want, for it does much more than what you want it too, but it's cool nonetheless.

Thank you for that 3dnow.net link .... that is a pretty sweet css / html active desktop setup. I woulda never figured it out on my own (mostly cause i don't know jack about javascript, and I am very new to CSS).
