My friends computer has a nasty worm virus that survived a format and it kills any virus scan setup programs. She doesn't have a floppy drive (stupid dell) and the only solution I can think of is a rescue CD of some sort. I've already tried making a bootable CD from a rescue disk through nero but it gives me a cache read error every time.

Yes, it is possible to make a bootable CD. Some AV programs (i.e., Norton) come with a bootable CD. Another possibility is an external USB floppy drive. I believe Dell also allows for bootable flash memory drives via USB ports.
