Is it possible to make a $600 AMD 64

Well umm.. yeah... this guy and me had a debate on his computer... After he told me I'm a stupid idiot for o/cing my AMD 64 3500 from 2.2-2.5 Ghz with a vcore of 1.70. Well, he then said he was building a $600 AMD 64 computer... So I'm thinking, are you serious... When I told him I spent $1500, he was thiking I got overpriced parts, but from newegg, no way... So now I am wondering, can you make a $600 gaming computer that can play Warcraft, and all the other games and such. He said he'd spend around $40 on his video card... But when I went on newegg, I put chaintech vnf-250, amd 64 2800, 1 stick 512 mb ram for $60, 80 GB drive for $60 or so, and yeah, total turned up $460.. This isn't an upgrade, this is the full computer, but no monitor, keyboard, or mouse.

There's different degrees of gaming. Think about it, he's spending $40 on what? An FX5200 or an ATI 9000 Pro compared to your 6800? NO COMPARISION WHATSOEVER. Then lets go to memory, for $60 he's probably getting 512 of PC2700 to your 1 Gig of PC3200. Basically he's putting his money into his CPU/Mobo and his computer will be nowhere comparable to yours.

Wow 40 bucks on a vid card and I'm planning on spending 600! With 40 bucks you can play Warcraft: Orcs and Humans no prob...

The 460 setup works fine, but he has 140 bucks pocket change, put 100 of it into a 9600PRO and 80 into the mobo.

good choices, but get rid of the 5.1 speakers and buy a Antec SONATA. Quality Powersupply will be needed.

Dude, this is all you have to do. Just let him build his bad ass $600 "gaming machine." Then say, "Hey, you wanna play some Far Cry or Doom 3?" Then just laugh at him while you are playing at high res with everything setting maxed and he's watching a slide show. 🙂 And then point at him and call him a loser. 🙂

Seriously man, rest assured, your machine will be WAY better than his. A $40 video card does NOT go into a gaming machine. He's building a computer NOT a gaming machine.

$40 video cards are cards that companies like Dell put into budget PC's as a way to cut a corner and save money. They really aren't ment for gaming.
