Is it possible to live with a significant other and play a MMORPG like WOW?

I would never be able to balance my relationship and a MMORPG being as obsessive as I am and my girlfriend would end up resenting me, so i stay away from them all together.

i don't see why not, as long as it doesn't take over your life.
i don't think a couple needs to be together 24/7 to be happy.

I would go so far as to say they actually need time apart to remain happy, but maybe that is just me.

No, that's a pretty true assessment

You answered your own question. The determining factor is your level of obsessiveness with the game.

If your SO is leaving your dinner at the door to your computer room, of course she's going to have a problem with it...

Captain Common Sense to the rescue!

Just get her to play as well. Back when I raiding hardcore in WoW, most people have a family and work. We raid 5 nights a week, 4 hr a raid. And 10 mans on off nights. The GM has core raider in 2 raiding guilds.

Captain Common Sense?
Does he share any sort of rivalry with Captain Obvious, or are they part of the League Against Dumbassery?

My wife has dealt with me playing Enemy Territory and COD4 and such, but then again, I don't do it every night and since a map is never longer than 30 minutes, it's not like I'm tied to a two hour raid or something.

Too much 'togetherness' would make both my wife and I insane. We have shared interests that we enjoy together and separate interests (I play MMOs and I can barely talk her into playing Wii tennis) that we pursue independent from one another.

I play 2-3 rounds of Halo3 every other night. When wifey's at work I play a few hours straight. 7 hour halo sessions are awesome.

It can be an addiction just like anything else. A buddy of mine had a wife that worked 12 hour days 3 days a week. He started getting into the online RPG stuff and played that for 4 hours a night when she was working. Which was fine.

The trouble was that he just couldn't stop playing on days she was home. It became part of his routine and their marriage became very rough for a while(not just from this, but it definitely was a contributing factor).

If you can get by playing for a couple hours a week it's no big deal. But if it's a couple hours a day it's hard to have a meaningful relationship and still be fair to your SO.

I just made him up, but theoretically I was thinking he could handle everything that is too dumb for Captain Obvious.

We should start a support group.

It would be funny if he got on his epic mount and threw his banhammer at you while on his way to Ironforge. It'd be funnier if the banhammer had AoE and we all got bannanated and had to run back to ATOT from the cemetary.

Careful, we're creeping into quoted nef tree territory and we're past the requisite 2 nef quotes...

Nah. I've been on hold for 40 minutes waiting for vendor support. I'm really freaking bored.

ive seen a lot of younger relationships fail, even if they both play a lot. if you havent been married for decades, arent in your 50s, or she dont play, forget about it.
