Windows 98 allows you to bond two modems together for double the speed. This requires your ISP to support multi-link protocol though, and you have to have two phone lines.
Diamond made a Shotgun modem which was two modems on one card, so you didn't have to take up two slots.
i have heard it as well...what you have to do is to get 2 phone lines and 2 modems. then you dial up to your isp twice using the 2 modems. theoretically you will get 56k X 2 =128k. but i've never seen it in action.
diamond would be a good solution if Diamond supported their @#%% products. They don't have shotgun support in anything higher then win98. And in win98 there are already problems they havn't resolved.. settings reset each time you reboot. Sometimes i just want to kick them... they seemed like such a kewl company until now. arghhh!! also shotgun is only good if your desperate for some speed because the extra charge for dual logging on your isp makes the cost very near dsl or cable. I have the suprasonic II single card dual modem. Lousy s3 and their lack of support!!
I've found that a single external modem will outperform the Diamond shotgun when only one modem is used. Tried the dual for awhile but it was too expensive since the phone company didn't give any breaks on the second line.
they do offer cable in my area, but right now i am not paying for my internet. i actually work for my ISP, and they provide me with the net for free. when i dial in i normally get 50k+ and download speeds of 6k+ and thats on a cheap $10 winmodem! my friend has 2 modems and 2 phone lines, maybe we will give it a whack
