Is it possible to hook up a giant turbine to harness energy of a hurricane?

Imagine all of the natural energy we could generate from a hurricane. No more oil from middle east!!!! If we could hook up a couple of gigantor turbines, I'm sure the forces would be incredible.

Where would the turbine be? On a ship under the hurricane? That's not a very steady or reliable energy source, hurricanes MOVE across the ocean and only last a couple of weeks at most.

Windmills don't work well at low velocity or at high velocity air. If winds are blowing too fast, most windmills are shut down.

Doesn't just look cool, it's also functional!

Yea, just tell the hurricane to go that way.

Just talk to the Russians in their stealth submarines who are controlling the formation of hurricanes.. they will help you out with that :)

They say there's no such thing as a stupid question but really there is.

How often do storms move through a particular area? Maybe once every 10 years? You're going to build a "giant turbine" so that one day every 10 years you can capture a few thousand kilowatts of power?

It's a hypothetical question that I likely could/would have asked, so STFU Jules, just a hypothetical question. I wonder as my self how having a huge turbine spinning so fast that it could get so much energy, talk about making the best of the situation.

Oh lighten up. It's not like I'm the only one who gave you crap for asking this question. :p

You know what would be an even better idea? We get a bunch of fighter jets together whenever there's a hurricane and flew them into the hurricane and then have them fly in a circle in the opposite direction as the wind. Get enough planes together and you could cancel out the hurricane and we wouldn't have to worry about them any more.

You know what would be even better? If you went back to grammar school and fixed your sentence structure.

Will you quit trying to prove that you are over the age of 13. We all know you're not, so give up already.

Use a big eductor to draw super cold air all the way from the troposphere to cool the surface and collapse the system on itself. The suction could also be used to clean up the dirty neighborhoods.
