Is it possible to hide programs from Control Panel uninstall?

Well Win XP managed to hide MSN Messenger and other stuff. Is it possible to modify sysoc.inf to manually hide other programs?

Sysoc.inf controls access to XP "system components" only. 3rd party applications are not listed, nor can they be hidden here.
I'm sure it can be done (don't know how myself), but it isnt via sysoc

Well you can remove the uninstall keys from the registry, not really 'hidden' but they definately won't appear in the add/remove list.

...that's an idea. any standard way of finding the uninstall key, or should i just run a search using the program's name?

Try removing the entry that you want to hide in registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
