Hi, I am planning on putting up three operating system on one drive. WinXP, Win98 SE and Ubuntu, is it possible to have an operating system menu where you can choose what operating system to run on startup and how?
LILO and GRUB are the two Linux bootloaders that allow you to choose from multiple OSs to boot from. I don't know which one is the default for Ubuntu. GRUB is a bit nicer looking. I guess I'm just a bit more familiar with LILO, so that's what I use with Slackware.
You need to create a separate partition for each operating system that will be installed. I usually install Windows first. Then, after installing Linux, depending on the distro, you may be asked to configure the bootloader with any additional, non-Linux OSs you want to be able to boot from.
The exact procedure is going to be a bit different depending on which OSs you install, which Linux distro, which bootloader, etc, but that's the general idea.
Ubuntu 7.10 used GRUB on my laptop with XP. Getting it to dual boot was a fairly simple process though I did have to create the mount points manually. I've never done 3 OSs though.
Thanks for all the reply! I have decided to install xp and ubuntu instead, the reason why i needed win98se is because of the two old games i have that i wanted to play but cant run on xp, i have decided to just use ubuntu and wine to run these old games. I just hope older games that are designed for win95 and win98 can run at its fullest on wine.
