Hi there.

I have just got a VERY sweet deal on a ASUS TI4600 model 8460. It has no tv-out.

I need TV-out. Is there a way to get that??

I was thinking about getting a TV-card on the computer. Does that give me TV-out or do I have to sell that ASUS to an other guy and get me a card with TV-out on??

Thanks in advance.

It IS possible to have a TV out hooked up to a non-TV out video card. I did it with my Geforce2MX and it worked. What you'll probably have to do is to buy a separate PC-to-TV scan converter module. I don't know the website for it, but I bought a 'Grandtec UltiMate 2000' converter. The way it worked is that the module came with a VGA splitter cable that went three ways: One to the back of your computer (as you would plug in any regular monitor), one to the convertor, and the third one plugs into your monitor cable. From there, you plugged in either a composite or S-video cable into the module, then hooked that into your TV.

This solution will work, but it's in no way superior to having a real tv-out on your card. My main complaints about this setup is that it put the image outputted to your monitor a teeny bit out of focus (once you get used to it you barely notice it), and the image outputted to your TV had a lot of darker shaded colors washed out not looking very good, and the outputted frame rate would sometimes 'skip'.

Considering that the module costs $100 (if you can even find one now) and a Radeon8500LE can easily be found for ~$90ish on NewEgg.com, I personally think you're better off buying a new video card. But to answer your question: Yes, there are ways to get a TV-out put in with a non-TV-out card.

Or you could get a tv with a monitor 15pin input, or depending if it's for games or movies you could get a dvd decoder card to output your movies to the tv, or you could connect the vid card to a projector :D

Thanks for your honest reply.

Guess I will only do a bit of benchmarking with that ASUS card and then sell if off to somebody that do not use tv-out.

These movies I am seeing on the computer is DIWX movies downloaded from the net, not DVD´s. Can it still be done. If so what is the prices for such a card??
Sorry for all these questions. I am a total newbie to all this. My preivous grafic card had TV-out, so I didnt need to put focus on all of this.

You could purchase a PCI videocard w/ tv-out and go that route. Set-up pci as tv-out and gf4 as main display.

Yes that is also a way to go. But wouldnt that give me a much poorer tv-out signal that way?? Yes, ofcourse it depends of the quality of the PCI grafic card...
