Is it possible to get the Infra Red device to work with Win NT 4.0?

I have an IBM 390X with NT 4.0 and SP5. If I'm not mistaken, the infra red device is not supported by NT. But, was hoping that maybe someone knows a fix for this. Perhaps SP6? I want to be able to sync my Palm V with my laptop without having to cary the cradle around. I know I can purchase the sync cable that will connect my Palm V directly to my laptop, but I don't want to have to shell out $40-$60 for the traveler kit. Are there any plans of Microsoft getting infra red support with NT? Does Win2k have infra red support? Thanks.

I have seen this subject discussed before and I am suggesting that you don't give up because there were some work arounds mentioned.

Is this what you're referring to?

quickbeam

Will this work with a "hotsync" with my palm v? Quickbeam doesn't sound like it will work for a hotsync but I'm not sure.

edit

It looks like it will work, but for $40. hmm. I'll keep looking for something free.....

Thanks again kozloski! You were right. IBM does have IR support for most of their laptops with NT. BUT, my model(ThinkPad 390X, type 2626 LNU) does not have support drivers for the IR device. WTF! Every other model on their website has ir device drivers except mine! This sux. Looks like I may have to get quick beam. Maybe I'll just make my company pay for it. I can tell them, "Out of ALL the IBM laptops you could have chosen to give me, you give me the one model that does not support Infra Red!!!!" I use my Palm V a lot. I'm on the road half the time I'm working. I don't want to lug a cradle around. My Laptop bag is cramped enuf! Anyway, thanks for your help!!!!!
