is it possible to get sound in win2k for running dos games?

i want to run the following games:

Master of Orion 1
Carmageddon 1
Theme Park

I recall in the past that with my soundblaster live, the sb16 emulation didn't work... well, now i have an msi kt3 ultra2 motherboard, and it has onboard Realtek ALC650 6-channel audio.

any ideas on how i can get this to work? 😀

I believe there are a couple sound emulators out that may work.

Also, as I recall, there were some links to FAQs or forums that I found on http://www.the-underdogs.org where people had found solutions to sound problems in DOS games under W2K.

If you find some that are helpful, please post them here. I've seen this queston before, and always wondered if people were able to get it done.

i got it working (for the most part)!!!

i've got regular sound working in dos, just not midi's yet (which are used in a lot of older games).

this program, called abandon loader, works in conjuction with the VDM sound emulation project (allows dos to use sound w/directx compatable sound cards):

and

abandon loader works as an easy way to run dos games through windows. i dont know what it does, but it works 😛 i know dos, and i had some games i couldnt get to run cause it said i didnt have enough extended memory (lol), but in abandon loader they come right up & run beautifully. it has built-in features to slow your cpu down for games if you want (cause some older poorly written games will run extremely fast on newer hardware). really nice program, i can't believe i didnt know about it. it's a godsend!
