Is it possible to get images to display in preview icons in Vista Basic?

All of my image folders just show icons instead of the preview of the image. Makes browsing folders of images painful. Is there a way to have this feature turned on without the Aero interface? XP could do it. (and did regardless of desktop settings)

I don't mean to be a smarta@$$, but... why don't you just go back to XP if you want to turn-off Vista eye-candy...?

I've never liked animated stuff on the screen so it's always looked that way. The visuals in Vista actually are the best since MS came out with 'em and honestly I would not have an issue but until ATi/AMD fixes their drivers, I prefer to leave it OFF.

I do have a running image of x64 that's fine but the 2D speed at 2560x1600 is much slow (large webpages can be seen painting the screen - unacceptable today!) So another ATi issue. :sigh;

But there should be another way. The TCP/IP stack in Vista seems to be MUCH better with my connection for webpage rendering all around and even the few games I play work OK. So I'm probably just staying with Vista. On the mid range workstation with 64GB ram Vista definitely handles things smoother than x64. But that has a QuadroFX and none of these issues.

system properties>advanced system settings tab>performance settings button>select custom and check 'show thumbnails instead of icons'

I've never used Vista Basic, I'm assuming the option is still there as it is in HP, Business & Ultimate

Thank you! That did the trick.

The summary is somewhat misleading - I have Windows Vista Ultimate but the display mode was set to basic. (looks like XP)

Ya know, I never realized the theme was called "Windows Vista Basic." Too close to Home Basic. Oh well, typical MS naming.

Glad it worked for you.
