Is it possible to fit the following into a micro-atx case?

Depends on the case you are looking at. Some are better than others. The P180 mini has been on sale at several places recently and is one of the best for the size.

The P180 mini is the size of a regular ATX mid-tower.

How about the Antec NSK3480?

Comes with an EarthWatts 380 which is good enough for any setup which requires only a single 6 pin PCIe plug. Case is really small at under 14" tall and 14" deep. It takes normal ATX PSUs, normal optical drives and normal hard drives (four bays total). It takes micro ATX motherboards and can take even huge video cards like the GTX 280. Great airflow with 120mm exhaust fan, and can even take tower heatpipe CPU coolers. Seriously it puts many ATX towers to shame for airflow.

Is there really any way to make sure parts will fit without a) buying the case or b) confirming with someone else who bought the case?

Go to Newegg.com and look at the customer comments. If you are lucky, other users will have left detailed comments about what worked or didn't in their own build. I've noticed lately that some people leave comments there even if they bought the product elsewhere.

I've owned an NSK3480 and know what can fit. GeForce GTX 280? Yes, can fit, but you'll need to upgrade to a higher capacity PSU. Any ATX PSU that isn't longer (front-back) than around 6" or so will fit. So, something like an Antec TruePower Quattro won't fit, but an Antec EarthWatts 500 will. To fit tower heatpipe coolers, you'll have to remove the duct from the side panel (remove 4 screws).

Pics of my NSK3300. I am only using a midrange CPU/GPU, though.

I don't know about higher-end video cards -- some of those are pretty long, but I'd tend to think they'd fit. I think most big CPU coolers will fit, as long as the CPU socket on the motherboard isn't too far up on the board.

If you only have a single HDD and optical drive, you can put both up in the top chamber, which should free up a lot of space in the main chamber for CPU/VGA. HDD temps might get kind of high in the upper chamber, though.
