I have a hard drive that someone gave me that can only be accessed if it is connected to a certain network. Is it possible to erase this hard drive? (so I can use if for myself)

Try getting a set up disk from a retail Hard Drive like maxtor. I have used Maxtor hard drive setup to set up and format drives I could not seem to access with Fdisk. Download their program called MaxBlast and give it a try. Go to www.maxtor.com and click on Software Download. MaxBlast is on top of the list. Works with any IDE hard drive. When you use this program keep a Windows boot disk ready as you will need to use it.
