Hi guys. About 1 week ago I went on a system building contest with my friend. We built the system but it didn't work(there was problems with the jumpers) but now I heard we that we have damaged the CPU's chrystal. We didn't tie up the Heatsink to the Mobo that's the only we didn't do right cause we were in a hurry could that have damaged the chrystal

i dont know why but

i think its Kensai last post 😛

Whatever is wrong with you, I got the same issues

OP, if you mean the CPU core, then yes, putting the Heatsink on incorrectly can chip/damage it.

Ok... so you're saying you had the computer running without the heatsink attached... or you had it running with the heatsink attached but without a fan... or you think you damaged the CPU by physically having the Heatsink break it?

I'm really confused by what you're saying.

What kind of CPU is it?

I'm not sure on A64, but AXPs can burn up in just a couple seconds if a heatsink is not properly attached.

Are you talking about something completely different? If you're someone who goes to "system building contests" I'd think you'd know this all already...

Come on guys, he's a newbie in a non-English speaking country. It's not like he's Canadian or anything.

I dont know though. Im leery of being too gullible after being made to look like a fool for helping in the solution thread. Maybe he is legit, but I wouldnt put it past anyone to pull this crap again. Sorry in advance if you are serious, OP.

Then don't post in the thread. 😛

OP are you there? Lots of people are here just waiting to help you. Lack of response will cause us to conclude that your problem has been resolved...

It was a Athlon xp CPU and we were in a hurry so we just put the Heatsink and Fan over the CPU and we didn't tie it up to the motherboard. Maluno what the heck do you mean by
oh god not another one of these "my cpu is cold with solution!" threads...
it's not even my CPU I'm just asking is it possible to damage the CPU's chrystal by not putting the Heatsink and FAN right

You need to descibe what you are talking about a little better, nobody knows what a CPU chrystal is..but I assume you are refuring the the die. So what you are saying is that you turned on the computer, without actualy mounting the heatsink to the motherboard, and just kinda set it down on top of the CPU? If you did that you probably burned up the chip..Athlon XP's dont have any thermal protection..

Yes, not securely fastening the heatsink with the clip to the motherboard will potentially cause an AXP to burn up in a matter of seconds.

Yes that's very bad. The HSF is very important, because without it the CPU will reach temperatures that can destroy it and the MB it's mounted in. When the HSF is not correctly attached then it cannot provide a means to dissipate the thermal energy and will not serve the purpose for which it is designed. Depending upon how long you let the computer run without the HSF properly attached i'd say it's very likely that you fried the CPU.
