Is it possible to cross two different brands of speakers ... ?

This is my basic set up at the moment, I'm using a SBLive Value in this computer along with a set of Creative speakers(I can't quite remember the number, but they aren't the top quality ones).. so I've got my 4 surround sound speakers all hooked into my sub. For my other system I have an older set of Altec Lansing speakers (only 2) with a far superior sub to the one I have with my creative speakers. I'd rather use the altec lansing sub with my 4-way creative speakers, or in combination with.. the sub is powered by a DC line from the wall and has a seperate sub line running to it from the altec speakers.. Can anyone think of a way I can use the two in tandom? Basically I just wanna combine my 4-way surround with the bass I get from that sub. 🙂
