Can a Playstation be connected to, and work reasonably well with a TV tuner card? Has anyone ever tried this before? I am asking because I don't want to buy another TV....haven't got the space to put it! ;)

Cheers.

Umm, I've seen PS1 screens (Designed forportability) with built-in TV tuning somewhere before...

Thanks for the responses! Have any of you got recomendations for a good TV tuner card? I saw a Lifeview Flyvideo 2000 and a PixelView Play TV Pro....

BTW, what's the picture quality like?...

Cheers

yes as stated you can but do yourself a favor get a tv , the graphics on a monitor pale in comparison in
the format loss .

i use my gamecube on monitor(21") and it pales big time to my cheap tv

just my .02 cents worth

hope this helps

I know the TV tuner isn't the best option, but I havn't got the space or the cash (about $240AUD for decent 34CM) for a TV... I don't want to rush out and buy a cheap and nasty tuner. While I am looking round for a TV tuner, I'll use our Panasonic 48CM...... but the rest of my family get really annoyed when I'm playing and they want to watch something ;)
The Lifeview and Pixel View go for around $130 - $140 AUD. One adventage of getting the TV tuner is that i'll be able to get surround sound from my Philips AE... :)

Any comments appreciated.

Cheers

One card that I was looking at, the PixelView Play TV Pro, has both S-Video and composite video inputs, so where would I connect the audio to?

Cheers.

Im sitting here playing FF8 as I type this.. although the biggest problem is I have to use this little adapter to put the RCA sound into my sound card.... The video is going into my Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO... it doesnt look as good as the TV obviously, however it is neat to play it windowed, and do other things on the computer..

anyone know how to work around the sound problem?

No, just go buy a RCA to headphone adapter for like 3$ at radio shack.. then plug the RCA jacks into the converter and the converter intot the soundcard

How exactly do you go about doing this? I have a AIW radeon 8500DV, so I should plug the cables into the VIVO dongle right? Then how do I view the image? Also will it look crappier then on TV like someone said?

Well, this is where we can start to see how bad TVs really are for your eyes;)

Your standard, cheapo, everyday kinda TV shows a resolution of 640x480. Also, the way the guns are designed and the tubes are used, the image shaves a whole lot and kinda preforms a form of antialiasing for you. On your comp, most TV tuners are designed for 640x480 as well, or a tad higher. Unfortunetly, most of us don;t have our resolutions at that level, so you WILL notice that the image appears to be fuzzier because you're used to seeing the image on a TV, although it's technically the same image, well more or less anyways.

I have my PSX and DC hooked up to my Radeon VIVO and Santa Cruz and I love it. The PSX looks pretty bad, but the DC looks almost as sharp as on the TV. If anyone can explain to me how that works, I'd be glad to listen!

DC has sharper games :p It can also display 640x480 resolution.
It also has a direct VGA-out ability, though it doesn't seem like you're using it.

I'm using composite out with my DC... and isn't PSX 640x480? Or is it an interpolated image? This is really getting to me now! I know that there's a VGA box for it, and I have one, but it doesn;t have a pass-through on it:(

I'm not 100% sure, but with the AIW I have, you just connect everything to the dongle, and then use the TV program to "watch" your video input. You may have to change the input from TV tuner, but all should work, with sound.

How is the image displayed through a TV tuner card degraded from that on a TV? I personally think it looks better, at least with S-Video. Granted the computer doesn't do some AA stuff like the TV, but does that mean the picture looks that much better?

We used a DC on an ATI TV Wonder and S-Video and it looked great.. especially with Soul Calibur.. very sweet!
No need to go to a VGA-box with that setup cause I don't think it could look any better.
