Is it possible to clone a boot drive over the network?

So my wife has finally gotten frustrated with her MacBook Pro. There was nothing wrong with the machine (best laptop we've ever had. Period.) It's just that she uses SAS, R, and a bunch of other statistical programs at work all day and, with Macs having different keys, she was getting tired of not being able to use the same commands. So I got her an X1 Carbon. It's coming on Thursday. My concern now is cloning the computer to one of the drives in my computer. Is it even possible or should I just buy an external HDD and do the cloning that way?

In MacBook/or iMac, One can use WinClone and actually Clone a Bootable Windows Boot Camp partition as a compressed file to the OSX partition/Network/External Drive.

Then it can be treat as a normal file. I.e.,store it in any manner that One's System/Network support file copy/transfer. Winclone also ca reinstall the image back to its functional state.

I'm not cloning the Macbook. It'll be the new Lenovo that I'll be cloning. I have Acronis but did not know I could clone over the network. Can I created a virtual HDD and clone to that?

So you want to clone the windows 8 installation that comes with the lenovo for safe keeping???
In that case you can clone it to a file instead of doing a disk to disk cloning and you can even save the file on the same drive you are cloning, when your done boot up the lenovo and copy the created file to one(ore more) of your other disks.

When you run Acronis TI BackUp or recovery it shows all the available storage. If there is a viable Network click (left side of the window) on Computer near me and the network Icon would appear with all Network configured computers.

The other computer has to be configured ahead to allow sharing.

It is Not Rocket science but some learning need to be done if you do not know how to deal with Network Transfer.

Otherwise, get yourself a few hundred 2.5" HD and an Enclosure for it. Connect it to the USB and backup to the HD.

Backing up on the same Drive expose you to the risk that if something happens to the Drive the Installation and the backUp are gone.

---------------
500GB HD - http://www.newegg.com/Western-Digita...at/ID-1306-380

2.5" USB enclosure - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182291

The whole thing is around $50-55 and you would have a nice small HD space for special project and BackUp.

Title is a bit wrong...

I was going to suggestion CloneZilla but that only would be if the title was really about what the first post is about.
