short version, have an ibm ide drive i'm selling and want to verify that everything is in perfect working order. i use usb connections to hot-swap my drives so it isn't an internal drive, not attached during boot obviously.

ran error-checking with auto-fix errors and scan and recover sectors, everything went smoothly with no error messages. just want to be 100% that it is a perfect drive before i sell it however so i would also like to check smart status.

it is a 30gb ibm deskstar so i'm pretty certain it's smart capable ;)

details on the drive in case any are wondering:

model ic35l030aver07-0
part 07n6913
lba 58.600.080
fru 19k1567
rpm 7200
mlc h32228
chs 16383/16/63
date 15 aug 2001 n79

any help is appreciated, thanks folks :)

btw, i tried wd datalife tools and there's some kind of problem there between it and my rig... curious because i'm running raided 36gb raptors for my boot... as soon as i start the tool, the system reboots. that ones got me a little confused  i thought it might help me solve my problem but obviously not so... any help is appreciated.

Go to the hard drive manufacturer and download or run diagnostic tools.

I can check SMART status on my external Seagate USB drive, for example.

all of my storage drives are actually internal ide drives that i have put in enclosures and all of them support smart.

i am playing with speedfan now, i will report back on that once i figure the smart side of things out :)

i will also check ibm's website for any dx tools, thanks for that thought.
