Is it possible to change an OS such that it can't be changed back?

So, my buddy recons you can change a section of an OS and for that change to be irreversible. I believe since it's all just data on a disk, if you know what to change and where, it's all reversible.

His example was the whole Windows validation thing if you're using a dodgy copy of XP. He thinks that once the 'genuine advantage tool' has been run and all that stuff about 'you might be a victin of piracy' comes up, that it's completely impossible to be reversed. I believe there must be some kind of application that fixes this... Who's right? And could you PM me some info on a tool if you know of one...

Cheers

Sweet. Do they run battlefield 2 and Lock on?

BF2 mostly, with Cedega (a non-free product).

Lock On, probably not.

Guess you're gonna have to pay Bill Gates his fee.
