Is it possible to build up a tolerance toward Tylenol?

so, I woke up a couple hours ago with really bad backpain. happens pretty often, on account of my having a craptastic bed. it usually goes away after 10-15 minutes, but tonight the pain seems to be sticking. I popped a couple 8-hour tylenol pills, but 2 hours later, still no effect :-/

I'm debating whether to pop another 2 pills, or switch over to asprin or something.

A couple weeks ago, I had an incredibly painful toothache due to a cavity. The unbearable pain lasted for 4 days. During those days, I started with 2 doses (6 pain reliever pills) the first day. By the fourth day, I was going through a 1/4th of a container and it had no affect.

Seriously, loki, if you know the bed is the problem, you better deal with it. Popping pills will bring you short term relief, but how about when you have chronic massive back pain because you didn't attack the root of the problem fast enough?

You should make sure to take a dosage proportional to your weight, rather than assuming that "adult" suits everyone that uses the medicine.

Should you assume that a 120lb female needs the same 2-pill dosage as a 250lb male?

but pills are $2 bottle, whereas a good matrress and box spring will run me +$500. back pain sucks, but I like having a roof over my head too.

You've got a point... kind of.

You *WILL* thank yourself in the future if you solve your back problems now.
Likewise, you will HATE yourself in the future if you don't.

Yup. Especially if you regularly take it; Your body will eventually "get used" to it, and the pain numbing effects will no longer work for you.

RE: Back pain -- have you visited a chiropractor? A chiropractor might be able to straighten you out and "undo" those pinched back nerves.

RE: Bed -- is it old? If it is, try getting a foam topper ($20 and up at Target or Kohls) to add life to your bed.

That is a good solution. I make a habit of visiting friends who have less than perfect hospitality facilities, partly because sleeping on a floor feels great, every once in a while.

As far as your $2 a bottle equation goes, how much does tri-weekly visits to a chiropractor cost once you reach middle age? I'm sure that at that point, you will rue the day you decided that $2 a week cost you more than a $200 dollar bed. Of course, if you are willing to bank the money you save on a bed now, it may be enough to pay the chiropractor later. If you want to give those quacks money, that is.
