This guy wants me to build him a computer. He seems to have done a bit of research on this so I have to be careful.

He wants a 17 or preferably a 19 inch monitor with as good a dp as possible because he uses greek characters so that is crucial

athlon xp 2100 or thereabouts

nic
modem

soundcard doesnt have to be special. doesnt really listen to music, maybe only classical at that.

video doesnt matter at all. no games but still a decent card

40-60-80 gb harddrive whatever is the best deal i will get him a 7200 rpm definitely

cd-rw

dvd rom

optical mouse,

pretty cheap speakers... guessing about 50 bucks (probably the logitec z340)

most likely missing something but if anybody wants to help or knows of any deals on the monitor or on some components please holler

You might struggle, but if you can find a cheap monitor and you go for onboard sound you might scrape in. It also depends on how much/what type or RAM this guy wants.
The HDD should not be too difficult to get either for a fairly cheap price, as I said, the main problem might be a decent monitor if you want it under budget, and what about the S? Does that also have to be included in the price? If so you'll need to do a lot of looking.

Go with an nForce board..that will take care of your board, video, audio, nic all in one. All built-in... throw in an 1800+(this is the best price/performance one), 256MB DDR, Lite-onCDRW (if you want to save $, or Plextor for higher quality)

You might be able to swing a 17 inch LCD into the picture... check the hot deals forum for an LCD and hard drive.

I recommend the IBM Optical Navigator mouse personally, but I've also heard very good things about the Logitech dual optical(I think thats what its called).

I got it very close but you need to pickup a heatsink (the AX-7 and some Artic Silver from SVC would do a beautiful job):

I second the NV7-133R. Probably the most underrated motherboard out there. Solid as a rock, great value, and great sound. If it didn't have VIA USB 2.0, it'd be perfect. 😉
