is it possible to block a particular phone number

i have a razr on the cingular network. the bets i ahve found is to set the number to ring silently, but it still doesnt protect from messages. it seems to be phone specific in that a couple pda phones have this capability, but is it possible to block recieving sms texts and calls from a a specific number without buying a whole new phone?

my LG CU500 has this capability...but I've never tested it to see what happens if I add someone to the list
